What a wild ride 2019 was!
I am coming up for air after the holidays. We packed our apartment at The Jordan a couple of weeks ago, moved all of our stuff into the garage of our new home, and moved into a hotel until the house is done.
Our Lake House. Rogers House by the Lake. Laura's Dungeon. C&L Mansion. Joey's Playground... Rosie's Humble Abode... Castle von Archibald... Yes, we will give the house a name eventually, but it doesn't matter what it is going to be. What matters the most is that I finally feel like buying every cookbook out there. Ina Garten, Meghan Markle, all books rated best by WP, you name it! Right now in my Amazon cart, I have about $300 worth of cookbooks.
Can you really blame me when you see my new kitchen?! It will be finished in a few days. Will cooking be enjoyable again? It might be!!
Until then - I am cooking my regular meal prep stuff in a mini pressure cooker in an extended stay hotel :) And you know what? It ALREADY feels great! Being closer to the house, and not having to take the elevator from the 18th floor to take THREE dogs out FIVE times a day... - feels amazing! We have nowhere to go here but to go check on the house. And we love it. We are watching crime shows and home makeovers, shaming everyone who dared to put a microwave over a stove (that handle heats up!!) We are not judging. We are just so giddy with anticipation of moving into our Mini Mansion. The Mansion that we are able to buy, the one we were able to upgrade with so many nice features, the one that we will enjoy for years to come.
Could I ever imagine that I'd live in a house like this? Never! I don't know if this will ever get old: me saying that I could never envision a life in a different country. It doesn't require me to trace back events that led me to come to the US anymore. I needed to do just that quite often in the first couple of years.
Wake up:
- Where am I?
- In Chicago
- What am I doing here?
- I live here now
- How did it happen?
- I transferred.
- So I just flew here all by myself?
- You sure did!
- Ah, okay! I better get up and go to work then!
- Atta girl! :)
Pictured: my first apartment in Chicago, with the floorplan to help me fit everything in that tiny space. Tanya Sh., those magnets are from you :)
I don't have these conversations with myself too often now. Only when there are new chapters:
Wake up:
- Is this an engagement ring on my finger?
- Atta girl! And you are madly in love with the man!
Wake up:
- Who is this puppy?
- It is Rosie, you adopted her! She's okay!
Wake up:
- Was it our amazing wedding last night?!
- Atta girl! Look at your now-husband, he split his pants open on the dancefloor!
Wake up:
- Am I in Texas?
- Didn't see this one coming, right? By the way, you are getting another dog in the Fall, your neighbor "hates her puppy".
I am SO looking forward to the next conversation!! In my next post, I will write about Chuck (can you see him in from of the Castle von Archibald? His focus in 2019 was "to build a house that you deserve"... [crying emoji]
Thank you to everyone who supported us, stayed in touch, watched my sporadic (but massive!) IG stories, and cheered for us in 2019 - the year of construction! I love you all very much!
Thank you to my wonderful mom and BCG. None of this would be happening right now if my mom didn't tell me 13 years ago to "go get a job already" ( I was spending too much time using her computer LOL), and if I didn't say "yes" to the first temp gig that I was offered. I am so, so thankful.
