Dior exhibit in Dallas

A few weeks ago I joined my friends at the Dior exhibit in Dallas. I didn't know I'd go until the last minute. I just felt so tired lately! Luckily, my sew sisters had a spare ticket, and I decided to go. Monica planned the whole thing, made Sew Dior shirts for everyone, and arranged a photographer to take pics of the group. Everyone made skirts to go with the Sew Dior shirts. Sewing people are the best people!

Sewing is expensive

People often ask how much it cost me to make my own clothes. Often it is assumed that the total cost for fabric+thread+zipper is all it takes. If you score fabric for $10 and you spend $3 for thread and zipper, you'd think that the cost of a dress is $13, right? Well, think again! :) I took inventory of all necessary tools, equipment, etc., that I use to make a good quality custom-fit everyday dress, and I'm sharing my list with you. Buckle up! Even before buying fabric, we are talking four digits here. Education: online sewing courses = $1,089 over the course of 1.5 years. Well, 2019, you got nothing on 2020!

I just re-read my last post. In the middle of January, I was wondering what will happen next. Well, it turns out, at that time I was about 1 month pregnant! The hotel that we were staying at suddenly became so stinky, I couldn't stand being in the hallways, going to get breakfast, staying in our room.. Chuck was sure that I was pregnant, and I was sure that I wasn't. Well, he was right! We went to see a doctor on Feb 5 I think, just to make sure that I don't have some sort of extended fod poisoning, and it turned out that I was 9 weeks pregnant! Oh my oh my oh my!! I really didn't expect it, I didn't really allow myself to have any expectations since our miscarriage in 2019. I put in a lot of work that year to process it together with Chuck, and as a result, our love became stronger, our communication became better. My first quilt!

Quilting is hard, let me tell ya!! haha))) It took me two hours to just understand the cutting instructions. I cut out what seemed like a billion of little triangles, stitched them together, that stitched those blocks together with other blocks.. Wrestling the quilt through my adorable bernina was no picnic either! And not because of the machine (of course!! get yourself a bernina and you will know what I mean), but because I didn't have the right tools and skipped a few steps haha)) even my Apple watch told me to take a minute to breathe.. Yikes!!  Who would have thought that creating a flat blanket is so difficult? It is not, really, it just takes a second to train your brain follow a new process. It was actually enjoyable for the most part, and the result is right in front of me, getting ready to be mailed to Chicago for my beautiful friend Rachel, who is expecting a baby boy any day now.
